The Redlands Community Orchestra commences its second season with a concert at 3pm Nov 9 at Redlands High School’s Clock Auditorium. The performance will include Haydn’s Trumpet Concerto (K466), featuring trumpet soloist Steve Morics. The orchestra will also perform Schumann’s Symphony No. 3 “Rhennish” and Dvořák’s Serenade for Strings, and will be conducted by James Benanti. The concert is free of charge and family friendly. No tickets are necessary.

The Redlands Community Orchestra was founded in September 2013 as an outlet for amateur musicians in the Redlands area to play orchestral music together for fun. It is an independent, all-volunteer non-profit community organization which seeks to share the joy of music-making with its members and its audience. Approximately 55 musicians of all ages will play string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments in the concert.

Steve Morics is Professor of Mathematics at the University of Redlands and has been an avid trumpet player since the 5th grade, serving as prinicpal trumpet in the Charlottesville/University Symphony Orchestra while pursuing his Ph.D., and now playing locally with the Redlands Fourth-of-July Band, the Little Mountain Big Band, and, of course, the Redlands Community Orchestra. He has also played with the Redlands Symphony and occasionally plays with the University of Redlands School of Music’s Trumpet Ensemble and on student recitals.

The concert is sponsored by the Redlands High School Instrumental Music Department.
