The new Redlands Community Orchestra will conclude its inaugural season with a concert at 3pm May 18 at Redlands High School’s Clock Auditorium. The performance will include Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor (K466), featuring University of Redlands pianist Lara Urrutia as a guest soloist. The orchestra will also perform von Suppé’s Poet and Peasant Overture, Saint-Saëns’ Bacchanale from Samson et Dalila, and Loewe’s My Fair Lady Selection for Orchestra (arranged by Robert Russell Bennett) and will be conducted by James Benanti. The concert is free of charge and family friendly. No tickets are necessary.
The Redlands Community Orchestra was founded in September 2013 as an outlet for amateur musicians in the Redlands area to play orchestral music together for fun. It is an independent, all-volunteer community organization which seeks to share the joy of music-making with its members and its audience. Approximately 58 musicians of all ages will play string, woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments in the concert.
Lara Urrutia of Redlands is a solo and collaborative pianist and University of Redlands faculty member who has performed widely in Southern California, nationally, and internationally.
The concert is sponsored by the Redlands High School Instrumental Music Department.
