The Redlands Community Orchestra (RCO) accepts new musicians throughout the concert season based on open chairs and instrumentation requirements. If you are interested in playing with us, please fill out our sign-up form below, and check for a response from the personnel manager. To ensure it doesn’t wind up in spam, please add firstname.lastname@example.org to your contacts.
The RCO is an all-volunteer local ensemble. RCO presents three concert programs per season. Scheduled rehearsals are in the Redlands High School Instrumental Music room (Room 63) on Sunday evenings from 7:00-9:00 pm. RCO has an average of seven consecutive rehearsals before each concert. Rehearsals begin in September, January and March. Concerts are in November, March, and May.
We currently have openings for the following sections:
- English Horn
- Harp 2
- Keyboard 2
- First Violin (section players)
- Second Violin (section players)
- Viola (section players)
- Double Bass (section players)
If a section is full, anyone wishing to be placed on a wait list may still apply. A position on the waitlist does not guarantee membership in the orchestra. At any time during the season, if you are interested in trying out, and if there is an opening, you may need to wait until the next concert for membership within the orchestra.
Violin Chair Requirements
All candidates interested in a violin chair must be seated for first or second violin. The committee that will hear you typically consists of the music director, personal manager, concertmaster, and associate concertmaster. To be seated we would like to hear:
- A three-octave scale
- A prepared étude/excerpt (one-to-two minutes maximum).
- Selected sight-reading.
